  • My 15 year nephew cites John Mayer as his favorite … and my nephew is a self-taught guitarist who is part of a trio that does punk and hard rock. I don’t get the influence, since nothing Mayer does is anything much like what my nephew’s band blasts out.

    I haven’t followed Mayer’s career since his first hit single, but clearly remember him being presented at the time as “the next guitarist” in a mold, or rather taking the mantle, from Clapton. Don’t ask me how or why that could or would be the case. But I don’t play, so what do I know.
